Ruby was born September 8, 1954 in Tylertown Mississippi. Her parents are Abon and Lucille Bridges. When she was four years old her family picked and moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1960 her parents answered a request from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and volunteered her to participate in in the integration of the New Orleans school system.
